CPU ALL SCHOOL REUNION POSTPONED

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center Point Urbana All School Reunion is being postponed until next year.The planned date for the banquet is June 5, 2021. All School Reunion activities will again be held in conjunction with the Lions Club Pork Days celebration.Those who had already made reservations for this year will be receiving refunds, according to Teresa Scheeler, Reunion chairperson.

Party in the Park Postponed to July 30 - August 1

New date set for Party in the Park I think that we can all agree that 2020 has definitely not been going the way any of us thought it would.  With the thought of safety and social distancing in mind, along with keeping our community as safe as possible, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Party in the Park 2020.  We will now be hosting our annual three-day event July 30-August 1.

Ray & Virginia Boyer American Legion Post 166 cancel Fish Fry

The Ray & Virginia Boyer Annual Spring Fish Fry scheduled for April 24 has been canceled.  We want to thank everyone for their past support and hope to offer our fall fish fry as scheduled on Oct 23.

Garrison to Hold East Egg Hunt

The Garrison Fire Auxiliary (Garrison Emergency Services) is hosting an Easter Egg Hung, during social distancing. Over the weekend the Auxillary cut, colored and decorated paper Easter Eggs and placed them throughout the town in windows of homes and buildings. "While people are out for a walk or drive they can see how many they can find. Until Noon on Easter Sunday participants can comment on the Facebook post on Garrison Emergency Services for their chance to win prizes! The first person who answers correctly or the closest without going over will win a Four pack of Lost Island Water Park Tickets courtesy of the Garrison Fire Auxiliary.

A community comes together

Our theme for the One Book, One Community for the end of March was to be a tourist in your own town.We had visions of tours around town discussing the murals and finding out the backstory of these paintings that mean so much to Vinton, tours of downtown finding out what buildings used to be what, tours of the Braille School, the Depot, etc. However, the plans were not meant to be.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight cancels May Flight

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight that was scheduled for Tuesday, May 19 will not occur on that day, but will be rescheduled. Due to the COVID -19 ( Coronavirus), the National Honor Flight Organization has required all local Honor Flight hubs to suspend flights through May 31st. As with the April flight that was postponed, we are committed to rescheduling the May flight as soon as it is safe to do so.

Have you ever been to our American Legion? Stair Charity Challenge

This is what the Stair Charity Challenge is working towards...cement barriers for their parking lot. Last year they suffered severe water damage. Total Balance is working hard and trying to help them replace the wood wall against the hill (see photo) with large cement barriers. The challenge starts April 1st-30th, using your own steps in the comfort of your own home.
